Sign the Petition | Payday Lending Ordinances

Predatory lending is a big problem across North Texas, where hundreds of auto title and payday lenders charge outrageous rates and trap many people in cycles of debt. Help us put a stop to this. Sign the online petition now.

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is part of the effort by the Anti-Poverty Coalition of Greater Dallas to encourage local cities to adopt stronger ordinances to make it easier for citizens to make smart financial choices. Already, this work is having an impact. More than 4,000 people signed the petition that was presented to the Dallas City Council in late May, and the council unanimously approved two ordinances.

Ultimately, the Texas Legislature must regulate these institutions so their lending practices are fair and reasonable. But in the meantime, individual cities can pass strong ordinances to reduce the negative impact of heavy concentrations of payday and auto title lenders in neighborhoods that are already struggling economically.

Will you join thousands of your neighbors and take a stand that helps people in our community break the cycle of poverty?

I believe that my city government should enact ordinances that will significantly lessen the concentration of payday and auto title lenders in our neighborhood communities:
